The price of cement decreases in Cameroon: announcement of a new pricing grid by the Ministry of Commerce.

A new pricing grid for cement bags marketed by the Nigerian company Dangote in Cameroon was announced on December 8, 2023 by the Minister of Commerce, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, indicating a significant decrease in prices.

According to this new measure, a 50 kg bag of Dangote’s Falcon 32.5R cement will be sold in Douala for 4,450 FCFA and in Yaoundé for 4,750 FCFA, marking a decrease of 150 FCFA per bag. Similarly, a 50 kg bag of 42.5R 3X cement from the same company will be sold for 5,000 FCFA in Douala and 5,300 FCFA in Yaoundé, a decrease of 100 FCFA per bag.

For the company Cimpor Cameroun SA, the Ministry of Commerce has approved the prices of 42.5R cement at 5,000 FCFA and 5,300 FCFA respectively in Douala and Yaoundé.

This price reduction is announced to apply nationwide. The Ministry of Commerce also encourages distributors to offer prices lower than those approved, according to their capacities and expenses, in order to retain their customer base and attract new customers.

This decrease in cement prices at Dangote and Cimpor Cameroun is in line with the price approval carried out on November 27 by other operators such as Cimaf, Cimencam, and Mira. These companies have announced price reductions ranging from 100 to 250 FCFA per bag, depending on the cities.

The consultation between the Ministry of Commerce and the cement manufacturers is said to have been the cause of these reductions, following a decrease in production costs. This measure aims to provide financial relief to consumers and stimulate the construction sector in Cameroon.
