The PWD football club of Bamenda, also known as Abakwa Boys, will be competing in the Cameroon Cup finals on Sunday, September 24. This is the fourth time the club has reached the finals in its 61-year history.

Their opponent, Fovu of Baham, will also be appearing in the finals for the fourth time. Unlike PWD, who have only won the trophy once, Fovu will be aiming for their third victory.

PWD is hoping to secure their second consecutive win. Last year, they lifted the trophy for the first time by defeating Astres FC 1-0 at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium.

Before their victory last year, PWD’s last participation in the Cameroon Cup was in 1979.

The game will take place tomorrow at 3:30pm at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium and will mark the official end of the 2022 football season in Cameroon. Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute will preside over the event on behalf of President Paul Biya.

Expectations are high among supporters of both teams, who have made significant sacrifices to see their sides claim victory.

PWD announced on Friday that they have received FCFA 50 million in support from elites of the Northwest Region to help them prepare for the finals.

The PWD players have been training and preparing for tomorrow’s game since June, according to the club. They are determined to emerge victorious for the second time after winning the coveted trophy on March 13, 2022.

Fovu FC has been mobilizing their fan base in Baham, West Region, to come out in large numbers for tomorrow’s match at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium.

Elites of Baham have distributed six thousand free tickets to supporters of the club this week, and the fans will be provided with free transportation to Yaounde tomorrow morning.

On Thursday, the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education provided both teams with a package of FCFA 6 million each to prepare for the finals.
