Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner Group, his deputy, and eight other passengers are presumed dead in the Wagner incident in Saint Petersburg on August 24, 2023. An advisor to the Ukrainian presidency, Mykhailo Podoliak, has suggested that Yevgeny Prigozhin may have been eliminated by the Kremlin.

The AFP reported that a masked man, apparently a member of Wagner, wearing a cap and a sweatshirt with the organization’s logo, called for support for “Yevgeny Viktorovich (Prigozhin) and all our courage and determination” in front of the improvised memorial.
Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, the Belarusian president in exile, expressed hope that “his death could dismantle Wagner’s presence in Belarus,” a Moscow ally. She referred to Yevgeny Prigozhin as a “murderer” who “will not last long.”
Yevgeny Prigozhin’s conflict with senior Russian military officials escalated during the long and bloody battle for Bakhmut in the East, which was captured in May at a heavy cost. He accused them of incompetence and not providing enough ammunition.
