Erling Haaland continued his sensational form by netting a second-half hat-trick as Manchester City secured a convincing 5-1 victory over Fulham. The win sees City maintain their perfect start to the Premier League season and reclaim the top spot in the standings.

Haaland, who was recently named PFA Player of the Year and received a similar accolade from UEFA, showcased his goal-scoring prowess once again. After setting up Julian Alvarez for the opener, Haaland found the back of the net three times to take his tally to six goals for the campaign.

The Norwegian striker displayed composure and clinical finishing as he scored City’s third goal, assisted by a fine first-time pass from Alvarez. Haaland then converted a penalty after Issa Diop fouled Alvarez, before sealing his hat-trick with a superb first-time finish from Sergio Gomez’s cut-back.

Fulham managed to equalize through Tim Ream shortly after Alvarez’s opener, but controversy arose just before halftime. Video assistant referee Tony Harrington ruled that Manuel Akanji’s offside position did not interfere with play, allowing Nathan Ake’s header to stand despite Fulham’s protests.

With this victory, Manchester City now sit two points clear at the top of the table heading into the international break. The team’s impressive start to the season raises concerns for their rivals, as City has not won their first four games since Pep Guardiola’s inaugural season in charge.

Although City initially struggled to find their rhythm without the injured Jack Grealish, the debut of new signing Jeremy Doku provided encouragement. However, it was Haaland’s exceptional performance that stole the show and propelled City to victory.

Haaland’s remarkable record of 51 goal involvements (42 goals and nine assists) in just 39 Premier League appearances is the fastest achievement of its kind, surpassing Andy Cole’s previous record by four games. With six goals in four league matches, Haaland has matched his impressive start from last season, setting a high standard for both himself and Manchester City.

As the international break commences, City and their star striker have sent a clear message to their competitors that they will be a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League this season.
