Liverpool Football Club has turned down a staggering £150 million offer from Saudi Pro League team Al-Ittihad for their star forward, Mohamed Salah. The bid, which exceeded £100 million, included additional add-ons to reach the final figure.
Despite the lucrative offer, Liverpool remains adamant that Salah is not for sale and has no intention of parting ways with the Egyptian international. Salah, who joined the Reds from Roma in 2017, signed a new three-year contract just last summer.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp reaffirmed the club’s position, stating, “The position remains the same. Absolutely no doubt about that. That’s how it is. Nothing else to say.” Klopp had previously emphasized Salah’s commitment to the club, declaring him “100% committed” to the Anfield cause.
With the transfer window closing at 23:00 BST on Friday for Premier League teams, Liverpool would have little time to react if Salah were to leave. However, Al-Ittihad still has the opportunity to sign players as the Saudi Pro League transfer window remains open until September 7.
Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, had previously dismissed rumors of a move to Saudi Arabia and has not responded to the latest links with Al-Ittihad. In a social media post on August 7, Issa wrote, “Mohamed remains committed to Liverpool. If we considered leaving Liverpool this year, we wouldn’t have renewed the contract last summer.”
Salah has been an integral part of Liverpool’s success, contributing one goal and two assists in three games this season. With his assistance, Liverpool has accumulated seven points, including a draw against Chelsea and victories over Bournemouth and Newcastle United.
The 31-year-old forward has an impressive record, scoring 187 goals and providing 76 assists in 308 appearances for Liverpool. He has won numerous titles during his time at Anfield, including the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup. Salah has also claimed the Premier League Golden Boot three times and has been named the PFA Player of the Year twice.
Liverpool has already experienced departures to Saudi Pro League clubs this summer, with midfielders Fabinho and Jordan Henderson moving to Al-Ittihad and Al-Ettifaq, respectively. Additionally, Roberto Firmino left the club on a free transfer and joined Al-Ahli.
This summer has seen several high-profile signings by clubs from Saudi Arabia, including Karim Benzema and Neymar. Al-Hilal even made a world-record bid of £259 million for Kylian Mbappe. Despite the allure of these signings, Liverpool remains resolute in their decision to retain Salah and continue their pursuit of success in the upcoming season.
