Jean Ping, a prominent Gabonese political figure and former presidential candidate, recently mentioned the alleged involvement of France in the coup d’état that overthrew Ali Bongo Ondimba in Gabon. In a controversial statement, he claimed that France played a crucial role in the change of power in Gabon.

According to Jean Ping, Ali Bongo allegedly realized France’s intentions towards Gabon too late. He was reportedly approached by French President Emmanuel Macron to make Gabon an important base in the fight against terrorism in Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali. However, Ali Bongo supposedly refused this request, which led France to seek a more favorable replacement.

The former presidential candidate also highlighted that Ali Bongo recently addressed a message in English to Americans and the English, rather than in French, indicating a breakdown in trust with his friend and French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron.

Jean Ping accused the general who seized power in Gabon of being a pawn of France, emphasizing that French control over the country continued despite the change in leadership.

He also warned of the risk that France might manufacture another leader favorable to its interests, who could remain in power for a long period.

Jean Ping called on the current general in power to be vigilant against French proposals and to avoid engaging Gabon in actions that could go against African interests. He emphasized the importance of not betraying African brothers and sisters in the pursuit of national goals.

These comments by Jean Ping have sparked debates and discussions in the country, highlighting the complexity of the relationship between Gabon and France and the geopolitical stakes surrounding the region. Gabonese people remain attentive to the political situation in their country.
